CBI-electric provides trusted, durable and reliable products for the protection, control and fitting of most Low Voltage electrical installations. We design and supply electrical main switchboards, distribution boards and load
centres, as well as equipment and tools for professional electricians and installers. We sell a wide range of power protection and conditioning products including world-class miniature and moulded case circuit breakers.

CBI Electric’s range of Low Voltage circuit protection equipment guards against electrical supply faults and fluctuations. Demanding legislation and public scrutiny means that operators must incorporate protection to ensure equipment and operator safety. CBI Electric offers a large variety of quality products that meet and exceed all relevant international standards.
CBI Electric is able to rapidly design, develop and test customised prototype products to meet international standards. Our testing facilities in South Africa are the only private testing facility in the Southern Hemisphere. Circuit Breakers up to 65kA can be tested against local and international standards for overload, endurance and vibration, thereby reducing the time required to develop a product from inception to completion.
In addition to various sustainability initiatives supported via CBI electric, CBI Australia is a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO).
This co-regulatory non-profit leads the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia. APCO’s vision is to keep packaging materials out of landfill and within the local economy.
Each year, APCO Members submit an APCO Annual Report and an APCO Action Plan.
Circuit Breaker Industries (CBI Electric) was established in South Africa in 1949 as a joint venture with Heinemann Company in New Jersey, USA.
In 1957, CBI Electric invented the highly sensitive residual current device (RCD). The development of circuit breakers, from miniature to moulded case circuit breakers, utilizes hydraulic-magnetic technology and most of the circuit breakers CBI Electric manufactures employ the hydraulic-magnetic principle of operation. This technology boasts two distinct properties; one being the accurate tripping characteristics, the other is its independent ambient temperature variations.
CBI Electric is a wholly owned company of Reunert Limited. Reunert is an industrial group founded in 1888 and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1948. It is included in the JSE industrial goods and services (electronic and electrical equipment) sector and is a constituent of the FTSE/JSE Responsible Investment Index.
CBI Electric has achieved international recognition for its competence. It represents the South African Standards Authority on the technical committee of the IEC, and is instrumental in the development of international electrical safety standards.
CBI Electric has a dedicated research capability, with approximately 4% of the staff employed in R&D. The company y include highly skilled professional engineers, technologists and technicians who have won many national design awards.
